If you are contemplating jumping on the “stem cell” bandwagon as so many offices are now days, Congratulations!

The healing potential of “stem cells” offers hope to many people seeking treatment today. Following is a list of things to know and understand in order to serve your patients well, educate them with realistic expectations, and ensure that you correctly understand “stem cells”.

  1. Anyone claiming to be selling “stem cells” is a salesman. There is nothing wrong with salesmen, however salesmen selling “stem cells” haven’t been properly educated and if they are making claims that their product contains “xxx million stem cells per cc” are selling you a bill of goods! Walk away! They are uneducated at best, or at worst, they are being purposely deceitful! Do you want to do business with this type of person?
  2. Stem Cells cannot be identified by CFU Assay. There is no method currently available to identify a stem cell, without months of expansion, extraction, and manipulation; all of which violate the FDA edict on minimal manipulation.
  3. Know what the FDA says about making a claim that you are giving a stem cell injection.
  4. Know and understand the facts about exactly you are giving your patients, and how to communicate and educate your patients.
  5. Know where your distributor/salesperson is getting their products. Are they coming directly from an accredited lab or are the products being purchased in bulk and “white labeled”. How is the labs standing with the FDA?
  6. Understand cell signaling and transmigration and the role they each play.
  7. Know the actual mechanism of action involved in what you are giving your patient!
