Chronic Pain: Treating Environmental Effects

Every patient you treat will come to you with complaints about some kind of pain. Pain is an indicator and should be the first element in determining a treatment plan. In Dr. Harper’s “Four Minute Exam”,  he pinpoints the source and level of pain with simple questions and a reassuring touch. Following HRS methods and the OCBM Roadmap, you as a treating physician or examiner can quickly put the patient at ease, explain the mechanisms of the particular pain the patient is experiencing and determine a treatment plan that will mitigate the pain.

The First Step is Determining Where the Pain comes from

When you focus on pain, the goal in your long term pain elimination plan is to wean the patient off meds and develop a Medical Management System that mitigates or completely eliminates pain from the patient’s life.

The first step in pain management is determining what kind of pain it is, and where it comes from.

Is it an acute pain from an injury? When determining a Pain Management treatment that promotes healing, this pain should be gone over time.

Is it degenerative, chronic pain? As the body ages, or is used in unhealthy ways, muscles can ache, bones and joints can be impacted by arthritis, and circulation problems can cause parts of the body to lose efficiency. Hormone levels must be addressed appropriately as part of this paradigm.

Is it post-surgical pain? Many times pain is a factor even after surgery. This is far more common than we often realize. This is a good reason to counsel patients in Pre-conditioning the body for success prior to surgery. It is critical that we pre-set the body for success.

Determine Source of Pain and a Plan with HRS

Dr. Dennis Harper is considered the ‘Master of the Four Minute Exam’. He has prepared a video course that teaches the 4-Minute Exam in OCBM’s Virtual Library. By learning this method, you can confidently differentiate between a hip or low back problem, a neck versus shoulder issue. Proper diagnosis is the key to treatment success.

Better, you can attend one of our Alternative Health Trainings with Dr. Dennis Harper. The weekend program expands on these strategies and teaches physicians and their staff how to maximize intelligence gathering while building confidence with refining feedback.

What about the Environment?

The patient’s environment and living conditions can have a deep effect on both physical and mental health. Shorter days, lack of sunlight and outdoor activities, depression, nutrition, loss of appetite- all of these factors contribute to how your patient feels and reacts.  Being ‘out of sorts’ often lets the patient focus on pain rather than activities, thereby preventing a normal lifestyle.

Some other factors are invisible but harmful- mold in the walls, pollutants in the water, and pollution from nearby industrial complexes can degrade the body over time and cause headaches, nausea and even more serious maladies.

During consultation, you must ask about your patient’s living conditions, HRS has practical advice for handling these situations.

Comprehensive Training Sessions

The HRS Methods and the OCBM Roadmap have vital information about determining sources, types and environmental factors of pain your patients experience. By tailoring training in your clinic specific to the types of treatments you are providing, we can expand your specialties, enhance your methods and increase patient satisfaction.

During our 2 day training, we will divide our time between didactics and hands-on practical application. Dr. Harper will talk about different mechanisms of pain and a variety of strategies to eliminate it, including his trademark, Neuro Ozone Therapy (NOT). In various applications of ozone treatments,, he will refine your strategies, based on what results you are trying to achieve. You will also learn how to solicit different responses based on gamma of ozone used, and the mechanism of action in Allograft products.

Dr. Harper will go over injection sites from head to toe. You can expect to both treat and be treated by your peers during the course of the weekend, under the guidance of Dr. Harper. You will learn simple, easy exam techniques that will show you how to determine the area to be treated, including the ‘Four Minute Exam.’ In the first ten seconds of greeting the patient, Dr. Harper has already learned five things that set the tone for the physical examination. You will learn how this effective exam technique can streamline your practice.
