Above are two links that have something in common. Both are in reference to the Covid-19 virus wreaking havoc on our country, along with the rest of the world. The other not quite so obvious connection would be that they both can be connected to stem cells. The first link makes a rather obvious reference to stem cells being used to treat patients in China. The second link doesn’t make any reference to stem cells at all, however after reading the article it becomes glaringly obvious that stem cells are the reason young children are virtually unaffected by the virus. While the article focus’ on increased Melatonin levels in children and infers that it is why children are virtually immune; it is my opinion that they walk blindly by the reason children have high levels of melatonin in the first place. Why would beings with seemingly endless energy need higher levels of something that promotes sleep? Well the reason is that to accomplish the incredible regenerative activity going on in children they need deeper more restful sleep in order to facilitate the regenerative cycle, most healing and repair activity occurs during the sleep cycle.
Realize that this is only an opinion however I think it makes more sense than believing that Melatonin is what is making the difference. I believe it is easier to infer that stem cells, having a natural affinity to inflammation, not to mention being immuno- privileged as well seems to be a more likely reason children are mostly immune.
If that would be the case the next step would be to use allograft products as either a preventative or treatment option. In the event that we do begin to see cases here in our area, or have patients seeking preventative measures we will be creating a protocol that might look at several administration methods to provide the most effective treatment for either scenario. Now might be a very good time to lay in a supply of allograft in case our delivery systems become disrupted!
