Ozone Therapy is the New “150 year old” Medical Treatment
Ozone is one of Nature’s strongest oxidants. It is a molecule with three atoms of oxygen, which makes it a regenerative therapy for sterilization, fungus control, and tissue restoration. Medical Ozone generators were invented in the late 1850’s, and were used in ozone steam saunas. During WW I, ozone’s antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties made it ideal to disinfect operating theaters and to treat infections, wounds and poison gas exposure. Ozone is created by passing pure oxygen through a high voltage gradient, therefore its half life is 40 minutes at 20° Celsius.
It is used in industry to sterilize food and water and to keep bacteria away from consumables. However, Medical Ozone is different from industrial ozone applications. Ozone must be free of contaminants, and will degrade plastics over time. The Germans use glass syringes because ozone is highly reactive and must be handled properly. Ozone should not be kept for extended periods of time in a plastic syringe for this reason.
