The Physical Exam: How Do I Perform Fast But Quality Exams?

In our last article, we talked about pain elimination, rather than pain management. Before you can use our Pain Elimination Paradigm to treat the patient, you must first assess the patient through a physical exam. Next, diagnose the patient’s symptoms based on the exam. Last, discuss the best treatment options for your patient.
That being said… in our virtual video training library featured on OCBMRoadmap.com, we actually have a virtual version of our training that you can purchase where we will walk you through our 4 Minute Exam! Check it out here: https://ocbmroadmap.vhx.tv/videos/hrs-4-minute-exam

Now… Let’s Talk Exams!

Step One: The Physical Exam
To diagnose and treat a patient, you must first start with determining the source of the pain through a physical exam. Harper Restoration Services and OCBM Roadmap’s Dr. Dennis Harper, DC, is very knowledgeable about physical exams. Dr. Harper advises doctors to never waste a touch. Listen to the patient’s body, not the patient.
You can learn about optimizing physical exams through Dr. Harper’s 4-Minute Exam video. He teaches 57 neurologic and orthopedic tests to enable you to efficiently give a quality exam.
What Can My Staff and I Learn From Dr. Harper’s 4-Minute Exam?
  • How to begin your exam at the moment you meet the patient, and what the initial greeting tells you about the patient.
  • A quick, easy, thorough set of exam skills, and how to let your senses record information.
  • Techniques that allow you to differentiate shoulder vs. neck pain or hip vs. low back pain, using exam skills you will learn.
In the 4-Minute Exam video mentioned above, Dr. Dennis Harper, DC, will actually walk you through these techniques so you can sharpen your exam skills.
Step Two: The Diagnosis
A successful treatment plan begins with an accurate Differential Diagnosis, as taught in the 4-Minute Exam. When performing a differential diagnosis, you will be reviewing your patient’s:
  • Current symptoms
  • Your Observations
  • Simply asking the patient why they are here today will form the cornerstone of your treatment plan.
  • Medical History, Labs, & X-rays can be reviewed as needed.
In Dr. Harper’s 4-Minute Exam, he goes over differential diagnosis and how you can differentiate shoulder vs. neck pain or hip vs. low back pain, and more!
Step Three: The Treatment
The basis for every treatment should be based on a physical exam and your diagnosis. As we mentioned in our last article, we highly recommend using pain elimination treatments over pain management. You can read why pain elimination is superior here.
To give your patient the best possible care, we recommend learning about pain elimination and our 4-Minute Exam with OCBM Roadmap’s virtual learning options and/or Harper Restoration Services’ in-person learning options!
